a burglar peeping through a window with no security

A study conducted recently by the well-known insurance comparison internet site, moneysupermarket.com, has revealed areas in the UK where an attempt to burglary is more likely to happen. The complied data is based on the number of home insurance claims that have been made.

Unfortunately, whenever such findings are released, it always leads to a media frenzy which in turn ‘anxious homeowners’. However, Hannah Jones from Money Supermarket stated: “While there are clearly some areas of the country with a higher proportion of insurance claims for burglary than others, this doesn’t actually mean the area is ‘rife’ with crime.  Areas with high claim rates will have premiums of up to a fifth higher.”

A recent unemployment BBC report confirmed Leeds Central’s unemployment rate topped 8.2%, with more than 6,400 people out of work, followed by Bradford South at 6.4%, approx 4100 unemployed. This gives us a very good indication as to why Leeds and Bradford topped the chart!

With the local government only able to raise awareness about the importance of home security and working towards increasing employment opportunities, it’s time for property owners to put in some thoughts in their home security status. It will be wise to investigate into security products like security shutters, grilles, gates, alarms and perhaps cameras, which will deter opportunist law-breakers and more importantly, increase the well-being of your home and avoid you and your family being a victim.
